Quality sign.jpg

Soon after founding Xquisite Remodeling, Thaddous Hooker ("TJ") spotted this sign and took a photo. The words perfectly captured his outlook on the home remodeling industry. Too many homeowners simply choose the lowest bidder and don't stop to consider WHY the price was so low. Underpaying workers, cutting corners and using inferior materials enable unscrupulous companies to maximize profits while minimizing costs... and then vanish long before the work begins to fail.

TJ invests what it takes to do the job right, even if it cuts into profit or occasionally means work at a loss. Ensuring the work is of the best quality, at a fair price, is his promise to every client.

Starting out in the world

TJ successfully finished high school and completed some college coursework at Florida State University. But he was drawn back to construction work in his early 20s. He gained expertise with siding installation, both vinyl and Hardie Plank. He also got involved with elevating and moving houses in the Outer Banks, often lifting the homes to a second or third level and then building underneath. TJ began to understand the importance of structural integrity, proper support for a home and how to ensure a solid foundation. He expanded his knowledge as he began framing houses.

Entering the business side

At age 27, TJ met a home contractor who had just launched a business… the man had a company name but had never actually worked in construction. He hired TJ for his technical knowledge, but quickly realized TJ also had natural business acumen. Soon, TJ was heading up sales and building systems for the company—project management, paying workers and sourcing materials.

“It was a lot of trial and error on both of our parts,” TJ said, “but I helped him build it from nothing into a $16 million company in under 12 years.”

However, it became evident that the two disagreed on some key issues. In 2023, TJ decided to launch his own remodeling business, where he could focus on these areas.

Doing it differently

“I’m adamant about doing business the right way, even if I lose money on a job,” he said. “I wanted to do personnel management differently—building buy-in and loyalty with my workers. I view everyone as a business partner, not an employee, so we can share in success rather than using people to make your money. As a result, I have less turnover, and my team is doing better work because they feel vested in the company.”

Everyone at Xquisite Remodeling gets to earn bonuses based on performance and productivity.

“I’m willing to cut into my profit to share so they can make a better life for themselves and their family. Growing up, I didn’t have family support around me. Now I get to tap into my roots and do business with honor like my people.”

Our history

Xquisite Remodeling was created as a renovation innovation—where old-school customer service and personnel management meet the exacting quality standards of today’s homeowner.

Humble beginnings

Founder Thaddous Hooker (TJ) grew up seeing a lot of how not to treat people. Removed from the embrace of his Lakota Indian tribe, TJ landed in foster care at age 9. He began getting into trouble at school and struggled to find his way. But then he moved into a new placement, where his foster mother was a real estate investor. Her rule was, if you got in trouble, you had come with her to work. So TJ began assisting her with house flips, doing everything from painting and flooring to landscaping. He found a knack for working with his hands.
